Private universities and public school systems hold a tremendous amount of personal information. Many organizations use the student's social security number as the student ID number. Stand in line at any bursars office while the student in front shouts his SSN through a glass window. 

"Midwest" State University

A faculty member of a Midwestern state university published 948 confidential files, many containing social security numbers, names, and addresses. The faculty information sheets were available over the p2p networks until RedTeam called the school and advised the removal of the p2p application.

California School District #1

Special education teacher leaks out 2,127 files over the gnutella p2p file sharing network. These files contained special education performance reviews, counseling records, and dates of birth. Redteam provides the alert to shut down the leak.

California School District #2

Former business manager for a separate school district, leaks out over 1,000 faculty social security numbers, including dates of birth and payroll information. RedTeam provides the district with free advice, and the location of the responsible party.

Pennsylvania School District

An employee of a PA school district, leaked 2,081 files onto the gnutella network, including student psychological records. RedTeam contacted the director of IT, and the P2P program was removed. 

"Southern" State University

An employee of a southern state university, leaked 4,410 files onto the gnutella network, including student and faculty social security numbers, dates of birth, and payroll information. RedTeam contacted the director of IT, and the P2P program was removed. 

School Security Consultant in England

Leaked out keypad access codes for over 50 schools in the UK. RedTeam notified the responsible party and had the program removed. Remote access codes to CCTV cameras 
and other security related controls were also exposed.

Florida Based University

A university employee in Florida, published their entire hard drive containing 19,244 files onto the P2P networks. Many files contained student social security numbers and transcripts. RedTeam contacted the CIO and provided the location of the P2P application

Minnesota College Health Administrator

A Minnesota college health administrator leaked 1,141 files onto the p2p networks. Many files contained full names, dates of birth, employment information, insurance ID numbers, 
and treatment data. RedTeam notified administrators via voicemail. The call was not returned, but the data appears to be off the network.
